About Bill Muter
Multi-instrumentalist, author, producer and tuba mogul Bill Muter has a performance career as diverse as his audience. Having performed in venues across the globe, Bill is without a doubt one of the leading tuba and and bass players earning him the nickname “Tuba Visionary.” The New Times also hails Bill as a “Showstopper” and “The most innovative tuba player we’ve seen.”
Bill is currently the Music Director for “Drew Tucker and The New Standard” and has also performed with Ariana Grande (with the South Florida Philharmonic), Shaun Martin, MonoNeon, James Francies Trio, Warren Wolf, Snarky Puppy’s horn section, Robert Sput Searight, Larnell Lewis, Mark Lettieri, Black Violin, Sarah Reich, Matthew Whitaker and a whole bunch more. Bill was also the tuba soloist, percussionist and keyboardist in the Tony and Emmy award winning broadway show “Blast!” for tours in the US, Japan, South Korea and a residency at Six Flags Fiesta Texas.
Bill’s first album “Off Script” hit #1 on the iTunes Charts in South Africa and was nominated for the Roger Bobo Excellence in Recording Award by the International Tuba Euphonium Association. Bill can also be heard on many other albums including Eric Biddines latest release “The Local Cafe” which was featured on BET James, Okayplayer, XXL and more.
Outside of playing and recording, Bill Muter is also a sought after voice in music education. Bill is currently a Cultural Ambassador with the US Department of State and conducts music workshops abroad to underserved communities. Bill is the author of two paperback music technique books in English and one in Japanese. Bill’s first book, "A Practical Approach Brass Pedagogy Book" was a bestseller in Apple’s iBookstore, topping the “Beatles Songbook” and the popular “Real Book.” A Practical Approach has also seen more sales than the national average of all books in the United States and has been used by numerous colleges and universities as their “Brass Methods” curriculum. Bill’s Japanese technique book 実践的アプローチ has been sold in every prefecture in Japan and is currently available for purchase through BrassTribe Magazine. Bill is also contributing author of pedagogy materials for the International Tuba Euphonium Association and he was an editor of “Modern Musician.”
As a clinician, Bill has presented at Universities and music organizations across the US, Africa and Japan. Bill was also the Curriculum Advisor for Honeyland College in Lagos, Nigeria. In the indoor music pageantry arena Bill was the Music Caption Head for the WGI Gold Medalist “Stryke Wynds” and also worked with FIU Winds. In the Drum Corps arena Bill was the Pedagogy Coordinator for the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps and served on brass staff with The Boston Crusaders and The Colts. Bill is also an award winning marching band show arranger and currently judges in the FMBC circuit. .
