Possible Arrangements for Clinics and Residencies

This is all original music that can be commissioned for your ensemble and their specific needs and strengths.

Otaj an Ayiti

Based on a true story from my years of touring with a Haitian band, this song features the infectious rhythms of Haitian Kompa dance music. Otaj an Ayiti is a great song to feature multiple percussionists.

Percussion parts needed (can be covered by competent wind players as well):

tanbou (drum set)

avèk gaz (congas)

gong (cowbell and floor tom)

Ipaja

This song was originally commissioned for the Honeyland School in Nigeria and features a mix of West African and Afro beat rhythms. The melody is quick and features some note heavy lines in the B section but they can be spilt amongst sections or into various soli arrangements based on the ensemble’s needs. The song revolves around F dorian and works great with some extra percussionists.

“Radiance”

This is a medium tempo Blues in F which breaks out of the typical 12 bar form. The song has a “strolling” feel and is written to highlight the spirit of our ability to overcome obstacles and keep moving forward in grace. Although the chords move differently than a typical blues, solos over the song can be approached like a traditional blues utilizing the F mixolydian scale or F blues scales.

“Boureebop”

Boureebop is an up tempo bop based in D minor. The melody is a play on Bach’s Lute Suite #1 (BMV 996) but transformed into an upbeat swing. The piece revolves around 2 key centers making it accessible from a soloistic standpoint.

GYBTB “Get Your Butt to Bed”

This is an up tempo corky bebop in Bb major written by Mary Muter (my mother). The B section features a stop time that allows for any soloists to shine. The song is reminiscent of Cherokee stylistically speaking.
